Nigel Hanbury

Nigel Hanbury, aged 51, is Chairman of Hampden Agencies Limited which is the largest Members’ Agency at Lloyd’s advising £1.5bn of corporate and individual capacity at Lloyd’s for 2008.  He has also served on the Council of Lloyd’s as the representative of the Working Names constituency.  His other duties include serving as a Director of the Association of Lloyd’s Members and as a Committee Member of the High Premium Group.  He also serves on a number of other Lloyd’s related Boards, Committees and Working Parties.

Nigel first became interested in Lloyd’s in 1978 and joined Lloyd’s as a private investor.  At this time, he was an officer in the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards and was on active service in Northern Ireland, the UK and Germany.  On leaving the army he trained as a technician and broker with two large Lloyd’s insurance broking houses.  He moved from broking into a Lloyd’s Members’ Agency by joining R. W. Sturge in 1986.  Following a successful management buyout and several subsequent mergers, he is now Chairman of Hampden Agencies Limited.

Nigel is married with three children all of whom are in full time education.  He spends his leisure time skiing, in country pursuits and travelling, and runs his farm on the Sussex-Hampshire borders in the South of England.
