The hurricane tracking site Stormpulse shows the current location of hurricane Earl and with the "Forecast Models" button toggled on [use the options buttons on the top RHS of the website], shows confirmation of the earlier projections with its path to forecast to be parallel to the north east coast of the USA. North Carolina is currently under "hurricane watch" for a category 3 storm.
Dr Jeff Master’s blog states that Earl is still a Category 4 storm with sustained winds of 130 mph and gusts of 160 mph. Earl is a large storm located north of the Turks and Caicos. Hurricane force winds extend 90 miles from the storm centre and tropical storm force winds can be found 200 miles away. This means Earl will have an impact on areas well away from the centre's track.
Following a quieter than predicted hurricane season, Earl is now the second category 4 storm to have been born, after Danielle, which tracked east of Bermuda and dissipated over the Atlantic harmlessly.
